The Washing is a continuous, 90 hour prayer and bible reading marathon. Churches, church groups (such as a prayer team or home group), and ministries from all over a city will reserve at least one Session - a two-hour time slot - during which 3 to 8 participants will proclaim the Word of God by reading scriptures out loud in consecutive order. While one person is reading out loud, the others will pray. After approximately 15 minutes, the reader will pass the baton to the next reader (who continues where the other left off) and join the prayer group. In this fashion, reading and prayer will arise continuously for nearly four days! This prayer and declaration of the Word will be a testimony of the lordship of Jesus over the city and a cry from the Bride to the Bridegroom to wash and cleanse her. We believe “The Washing” will impact the spiritual climate over Spokane bringing about a new season of fruitfulness and unity for God-ordained ministries throughout the city.
When and where will it be?
The Washing will begin on Sunday, August 5th, at 6:30 pm with an opening rally. The first 2-hour session of reading and praying will begin at 8:00 pm. Sessions are reserved online (click to sign up here). The event will conclude at 12 noon on Thursday, August 9th, in time for folks to get to the Franklin Graham Crusade. The Washing will be held at:
City Church of Spokane
1047 W Garland Ave (Cross Street - N Monroe St)
What is its Vision?
The vision of The Washing is “to unleash the power of prayer and the declared Word of God to foster a culture of transformational revival in our cities, states, and nation.”
How will we get there?
The mission of The Washing is threefold:
- First, we want to host events that will bring churches and ministries together to pray and openly declare the Word of God over our communities and cities.
- Second, as individuals and small groups are encouraged by participating in the event, we hope to see these groups influence their churches and ministries regarding the power and priority of prayer and the authority of bible, leading to an awakening in our churches. Our prayer is that believers and churches will be empowered to affect the ‘Seven Pillars of Society’ in their cities leading to city transformation and national revival.
- Third, we believe there is great power in the proclaimed declaration of the Word of God. According to His promise, His Word “will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire” (Isa 55:11). The spiritual climate over a city or region will be positively impacted by declaring His Word. As the light of the Word spreads into the heavens, it will become toxic to “the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Jn 1:5, Eph 6:12).
Where does the name come from?
The name ‘The Washing’ comes from Ephesians 5:25-27 which says:
"…Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, 26 that He might [a]sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, 27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish." (NKJ)
Also, it is found in Titus 3:4-5:
"But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, 5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit" (NKJ)
